I studied Oriental Medicine at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in San Diego, CA. I holds a Master's of Science degree in Oriental Medicine and am trained and licensed to practice Acupuncture, Herbal Medicine, Qigong, and Massage & Oriental Body Therapy in Utah and am board certified by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM).
In addition to earning a 3,500 hour MSTOM, I spent three years apprenticing with Matt Callison, L.Ac. founder of AcuSport Health Center in San Diego, CA where I specialized in Orthopedics, Pain Management, and Sports Medicine Acupuncture. We worked with athletes of every level to speed injury recovery and optimized personal performance.
I also holds a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Utah.
Being raised in a military family I have lived in many places, but I was born in California and mainly raised in Oregon. I spent most summers on my family's farm/ranch, where I enjoyed swimming, fishing, river sports, and exploring thousands of acres of wilderness. I also learned the responsibilities of caring for mechanical equipment, crops, livestock, forest management, and farming. I developed passion for tending to living things, personal fitness and natural health.
I joined the US Navy at 18 years where I served 11 years as a mechanic in propulsion engineering, firefighter, and as a member of shipboard security forces. I also enjoyed participation in a drill team & color guard, small weapons qualifications, martial arts, and obstacle course competition. This is also when I began developing my interest in holistic and energetic medicine, practicing herbal medicine on myself, friends, and family. Upon an honorable discharge, I served a 2 year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Idaho where I served in various leadership positions including the Mission office.
In 1983, I moved from the farm to Utah to attend the University of Utah were I earned a BS Degree in Organizational Communications with a Minor in Industrial Psychology. While at the U of U I discovered the regenerative power of Utah's outdoors. I hiked, skied, fished, hunted, and explored much of the state, falling in love with the beauty and diversity it has to offer.
After completing my undergraduate studies at the "U", I spent the next several years in Sales, Training, Operations and General Management for large food industry companies. I eventually gravitated into business to business sales, key account management and eventually started a business in Corporate Recruiting. During these years of working too many hours and with high stress, my own health, fitness and wellness diminished significantly. I exercised erratically, ate poorly, gained weight, lost touch with nature, my purpose, and passions.
In 2002 I began my journey back towards a life of balance and moderation. I left Utah and began my formal study and practice of Oriental Medicine, which included Acupuncture, Herbal Medicine, Qigong (Internal Martial Arts), and Tuina (Chinese physical therapy) at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in San Diego.
In 2007 I returned home to Utah and began to share this amazing medicine with the interested people of my community, and to reclaim my own health and happiness. I am passionate about the medicine I teach and practice and am deeply gratified by the changes I see in my patients every day. When not in the clinic, I can be found practicing Qigong, Yoga, Gardening, Hiking, and Snowshoeing.
